Greenhouse assistant
Position Summary
Expected to assist in basic greenhouse plant maintenance work, maintaining one or more mint plant populations. This includes but is not limited to: removing invasive weeds from pots, visually verifying water supply lines weekly, and trimming plants back every 4-6 weeks (rotating benches over the weeks) while maintaining organization protocols to allow scientists easy access to plants.
Position Type
This is a part-time, temporary position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Organizational skills and detail oriented
- Excellent communication skills and ability to consult regularly with greenhouse manager to coordinate with ongoing experiments
- Ability to work independently and exercise proper field and laboratory safety with minimal supervision
- Committed to work 2-6hr per week; scheduling is flexible.
- Must complete greenhouse safety training
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of plant sciences and / or plant biology and/or horticulture
- Continuous blocks of time to work
- Basic understanding of general field, greenhouse and laboratory maintenance and safety protocols
- Experience of working in the greenhouse or with plants will be preferred
Physical Demands
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- May be required to use frequent physical activities including sitting, standing, reaching, walking, talking, bending, and constant use of hands.

UCD Genome Center, core greenhouse complex, Veg. Crops greenhouse complex and / or Env. Horticulture greenhouse
