Mints
Apple mint – Mentha suaveolens
We assembled the genome of diploid Mentha suaveolens (Pl 557898 or CMEN 13), obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA).

Water mint – Mentha aquatica
We assembled the genome of a hybrid polyploid mint called Mentha aquatica (Pl 617488 or CMEN 678), obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA).
The assembly files have been posted on FigShare.
This work was funded by the Mint Industry Research Council (MIRC).
Horse mint – Mentha longifolia
The genome of diploid horse mint, Mentha longifolia (Pl 557767 or CMEN 585), obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA) was sequenced previously (see Vining et al, 2022.)
Genome assembly files can be found on the Mint Genomic Resources page from Markus Lange Laboratory website (WSU).
Our laboratory has assembled the genome of another clone of Mentha longifolia (PI 557755 or CMEN 17), also obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA). The assembly files can be found here. The association publication was accepted on October 7, 2025 and the link will be updated shortly. This work was funded by Mars Wrigley.
Peppermint – Mentha piperita Black Mitcham
We are in the process of assembling the genome of elite peppermint Black Mitcham.
Spearmint – Mentha spicata
We are also finalizing the genome of Mentha spicata l. var. crispa Schr. (PI 557802), obtained from the USDA Mint Germplasm Collection (Corvallis, OR, USA).
